At Perkins we have always had an open door policy. However, during the last two years we reduced the level of activities due to the pandemic. For the 2022-2023 we are again welcoming community members to be active in the lives of our students at Perkins.
1. One of the most important committees that require the presence of parents is the SSC (School Site Council.) The SSC meets at least once per month and exercises authority over a significant part of the Perkins School budget. This committee is responsible for addressing academic issue inside the classroom. The school is allotted Title 1 funds. These funds cannot be spent without input and approval by a group of parents that are part of SSC. If you wish to be part of the SSC please contact the school principal.
2. There is another committee at Perkins which has a different responsibility. It is called the SGT (School Governance Team.) The SGT is composed of Perkins Staff, students, and parents. Its purpose is to discuss operational issues of the school such as recess, lunch, procedures pertaining to arrival and dismissal, assemblies, etc. These are issues that are present in the school outside the classroom.
3. Perkins has two picture days scheduled during the school year. We ask that parents volunteer to help coordinate the schedule with classrooms during the day. As you can see from the historical pictures on the Perkins website taking pictures is very important to us.
4. One of the cherished traditions at Perkins has been the annual Perkins Talent Show conducted over two days in March of each year. We have not had a talent show for three years because of COVID. We hope to continue our tradition in March 2023. We need parents to help us conduct this very important event.
5. Perkins frequently hires parents to work during lunch by supervising the children on the playground.
6. There will also be other activities that are not listed on this website. If you are interested in any of these activities please contact Nikki George in the Perkins office or Mr. Hernandez the school principal.
